Abstract:
This
article denounces the pervasiveness of junk food which is now available 7/7.
Canadian researchers propose to rename the sweet and savory
"pathogens". They emphasize the impact that they can have on health
and insist that the next generation will have a shorter lifespan.
Quotation:
« Campbell and colleagues said that the
nomenclature "junk food" is too innocuous for these deadly delights
that are high in salt, sugar, and saturated fats.
While the term adequately describes food that has no nutritional value,
it also connotes a "certain ease in removing them from the diet and
implies that people are readily able to discard them through willpower despite
being regularly encouraged to 'give in' and indulge while living in an
environment where such foods are readily available and purposefully
promoted."
The commentary also takes the government to task for assuming a
"hands-off" approach to regulating the industry that produces these
foods, as well as the industry that advertises it -- with impunity -- to adults
and children alike. »
