Meeting of the cooking class in Bordeaux.

Foreign Guests Club of the Bordeaux University’s Blog, October 31, 2011.

Abstract : This blog’s article presents a meeting of some people in Bordeaux for a french cooking lesson. The chef, Olivier, showed how to prepare a onion pie.

Quotation :

“The first cooking class took place on October 12th, at the “Maison des 5 Sens” in Bordeaux.  Only 4 people could attend: maybe the lesson was scheduled too early in the evening hours.
Having welcomed the small group, Olivier, the “chef”, explained how to prepare a “tarte à l’oignon” (onion pie). Everybody pitched in, and afterwards, when the pie was ready, enjoyed the meal.”

Fatty foods addictive like cocaine in growing body of scientific research

• LANGRETH, Robert. Fatty foods addictive like cocaine in growing body of scientific research, Bloomberg, November 2nd 2011.

Abstract:

Presents the results of studies which shows the junk food is comparable to the cocaine. More laboratories and universities processed foods and sugary drinks aren’t simply unhealthy. They can hijack the brain in ways that resemble addictions to cocaine, nicotine and the drugs.

Quotation:

“Cupcakes may be addictive, just like cocaine. […] Those changes look a lot like addiction to some experts. Addiction “is a loaded term, but there are aspects of the modern diet that can elicit behavior that resembles addiction,” said David Ludwig, a Harvard researcher and director of the New Balance Foundation Obesity Prevention Center at Children’s Hospital Boston. Highly processed foods may cause rapid spikes and declines in blood sugar, increasing cravings, his research has found.
Education, diets and drugs to treat obesity have proven largely ineffective and the new science of obesity may explain why, proponents say. Constant stimulation with tasty, calorie- laden foods may desensitize the brain’s circuitry, leading people to consume greater quantities of junk food to maintain a constant state of pleasure.”

UNICEF USA joins Royal delegation to UNICEF emergency center

By UNICEF USA - 1 November, 2011.

East Africa Emergency
 Somali children malnourished

Abstract : Deals with the humanitarian crisis in East Africa and the death of childs.

Extract : "U.S. Fund for UNICEF President and CEO, Caryl Stern, joined the Royal delegation, packing a shipment of emergency medical supplies and continuing on to Kenya to help facilitate distribution to families who have fled famine in Somalia. Millions of children across Somalia and the Horn of Africa are suffering a deadly combination of high food prices, armed conflict and crop failure. The result: children too weak to fight diseases, unprotected from threats they could normally bear. The massive international response to the situation in the Horn of Africa has already saved lives, but hundreds of children continue to die every day."

Danger of a junk food diet for children: study reveals toddlers who eat more chips, crisps, biscuits and pizza./Junk Food makes children fat and stupid.

Abstract :

Presents the results of a study which shows the dangers of a junk food diet for children.

Index terms:

• HOPE, Jenny. Danger of a junk food diet for children: study reveals toddlers who eat more chips, crisps, biscuits and pizza. Mail Online, February 8th 2011.

Quotation:

“Toddlers fed a diet of junk food can suffer lasting damage to their brainpower, researchers warn. Children who eat more chips, crisps, biscuits and pizza before the age of three have a lower IQ five years later, a study showed.
The difference could be as much as five IQ points compared with children given healthier diets with fruit, vegetables and home-cooked food. But even if their diet improves, it could be too late as the ill-effects can persist for a lifetime. This is the first study to suggest a direct link between the diet of young children and their brainpower in later life.”

• ROGNLIN, Briana. Junk Food makes children fat and stupid. Blisstree. Wednesday, February 9th 2011.

Quotation:

“The study, conducted at Bristol University in England, followed the health habits of 14,000 children born in the early 1990s, and found that children who are fed junk like chips, pizza, french fries, and hamburgers before the age of three demonstrate lower IQs later, as compared with children who are fed fresh fruit, vegetables, and home-cooked food. Researchers say that junk food just doesn’t provide enough essential vitamins and nutrients to fuel brain development, which is crucial when kids are young.”

Junk food ads make kids want junk food (but parents aren’t powerless)

• BROOKS OLSEN, Anna.  Junk food ads make kids want junk food (but parents aren’t powerless), Blisstree, Thuesday, October 6th.

Abstract :

Presents the results of a study which shows the harmful effects of publicity on the children's food habits.

Quotation:

“Yesterday, we found a very unsurprising study which noted that children who watch a lot of TV tend to be worse about controlling their blood sugar. The study, which didn’t look at the dietary habits of these kids, had the researchers stumper as to what could be the reason for the connection. Today, another study released seems to answer why that may be: because the advertising the see while watching TV is effective, and makes them want to eat junk food. But here’s the rub: parents can help guide their kids in the right direction.”

Spooky New Trailer for 'The Innkeepers'

By Admin Get the Big picture
The November 2, 2011

Abstract : A new horror movie , the author gives his opinion on the new horror movie the Innkeepers.

Quotation : I've developed a bit of a reputation for being a candy ass when it comes horror movies.  Pretty much ever since I saw The Ring and The Exorcist when it was re-released in theaters, I stopped watching the genre and never see any of the newly released ones.  The new horror movie The Innkeepers falls right in line with that theme, and you can check out the super creepy new trailer for it below.  It's definitely on my list of movies to avoid, because of how scary it looks.
