French recipes for Valentine's Day !

OLIVER, Jamie, Cook with Jamie: You can’t beat a classic French dish - and these all serve two so they’re perfect for Valentine’s night, The Daily Meal, February 11, 2012.

Abstract: In this article, Chef Jamie Oliver proposes different french recipes for Valentine’s Day.

Quotation:
“We’ve got some classic French recipes this week which are undeniably good. We’re definitely talking about food that makes you happy.
The beauty of these dishes is that they all serve two people, so with Valentine’s Day just around the corner, whether you’re out to impress a new or an old loved one, they’ll be sure to do the trick.
Ultimately, they’re going to serve you well whatever the occasion, but at this time of year it’s nice to embrace flavours that are fresh and exciting, but also near to home and close to your heart.
We’ve gone old-school Parisian with the perfect steak frites. Traditionally this would be served with béarnaise sauce, one of the cornerstones of French cooking.
However, in the interests of giving you a sauce you can cook on a more regular basis, I’ve swapped in a tarragon aioli recipe with the same sort of vibe. Béarnaise is gorgeous, but is so rich it’s not something you can afford to indulge in too often.
In my opinion, the French are one of the world’s salad masters. This Lyonnaise salad with crunchy, smoky bacon lardons, fresh and slightly bitter frisée leaves, delicious croutons, a perfectly poached runny egg and a kickass dressing is not just a salad, it’s a feast. And last, but not least, is a dish that has scared cooks for years – the soufflé. [...]

Fast food joints and the early grave warning

• QORRO, Edward. Fast food joints and the early grave warning, The Citizen, Sunday 05th February 2012.

Abstract:

This article shows a study that highlights the risks of junk food on health. The journalist shows that customers are not sufficiently informed about the risks. This sector of the food industry is also booming.

Quotation:

“Health experts in the country are warning that the recent proliferation of such food joints in the city has to a great extent led to the emergence of lifestyle diseases, and if not well addressed, it would result in many health repercussions and deaths. Speaking separately to this paper this week, medical doctors and health experts noted that it was saddening to see long queues of customers at such eateries, waiting to be served ‘unhealthy foods’. They cited such diseases as hypertension, diabetes and cancer.
“This is a matter of urgency, the public needs to be told to shy away from such kinds of foods that are likely to affect their lives,” cautioned Dr Lilian Bachuba from the International Medical and Technological University (IMTU).”

What we can learn from McDonald’s making a hash of its hashtag

• TURNER, Chris. What we can learn from McDonald’s making a hash of its hashtag, UTalk Marketing.com, February 2nd 2012.

Abstract:

This article shows attempts to promote McDonald's food as healthy, balanced beside these clients, particularly on the social network Twitter.

Quotation:

“McDonald’s mistake came when it then changed the angle of the promotion and asked people to share their #McDStories. A proportion of the Twitter community very quickly hijacked the hashtag and contributed their less than positive McDonald’s experiences. This is by no means an isolated incident. McDonald’s has now joined a long list of distinguished brands including Dominoes, Kenneth Cole and United Airlines to feel the wrath of armchair comedians, disgruntled customers, and general trollers. To be clear, I don’t think this is by any means as bigger “fail” as other bloggers and journalists are stating. However, I do think it epitomises the challenge that many brands face when tackling social media.”
